So here’s the story: I am a new landlord. As of this first post on this site I have pretty much been doing it for three months. In a city as vast and sprawling as New York, it’s hard to find the information that you need to figure out what to do. I have done so much and wanted to document this in case there was any question of how to do this in the future. Also some of the events involving my building have been so memorable, i figured they had to be saved for posterity.

The Green… So the green represents three things:
1. I am new to this, thus making me a green landlord.
2. I have an eye toward making this building ecologically sustainable.
2b. I am pretty unfamiliar with how to do that as well, so that make me greensquared. but greensquaredlandlord.com or greengreenlandlord.com sounded stupid.
3. Money, kiznash, the benjies. Whatever. Landlording is inherently a business, and as such, whatever i do needs to be profitable.

Essentially, the story of greenlandlord.com is one of love, work, and conflict. The conflict here is between my three prerogatives. How does one balance out ones commitment to the environment with the necessity to stay in business long enough to even make a dent in the world?

I’ve come to believe in something Jeff Immelt has said: Green is green. That essentially means that being eco friendly is actually profitable. So, I’m going to see if I can stick with that mentality as I try to deal with the pressures of wanting to remodel quickly and cheaply.
